Sheri Kaplan receives Golden Apple Award

Walled Lake Elementary social worker, Sheri Kaplan, received a Golden Apple Award at the April 9, 2026 Board of Education meeting.

Kaplan was nominated by Walled Lake Elementary music teacher, Christine Moore for having a heart of gold and sharing her generosity with everyone she encounters.

 “Sheri is at dismissal every day, even when she is not assigned, to check in with students and hold them accountable across their learning spaces,” said Moore. “She also regularly brings in treats for staff and coordinates social outings that help the team connect.”

Kaplan is always prepared to try new approaches with students when something doesn’t work, using tools like social stories and checklists to help students succeed.

“Sheri is a true team player and a positive voice amidst the chaos,” said Moore. “She brings both creativity and structure to problem-solving and demonstrates consistency that inspires both students and colleagues. Her wealth of experience has given her a deep toolbox of strategies, and she approaches every interaction with a balance of firmness and flexibility.”
