The Walled Lake Consolidated Schools’ Board of Education appointed Jacob Hess the new assistant principal at Clifford H. Smart Middle School during its September 4, 2025 meeting. His first day will be Monday, September 8.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Clifford H. Smart Middle School as the new assistant principal,” said Hess. “I am dedicated to the middle school experience and look forward to building strong relationships with students, staff and families.”

Hess comes to Walled Lake from Fowlerville High School, where he served as Dean of Students for the past three years. He has more than a decade of experience in education on the secondary level having worked as a middle school social studies teacher prior to becoming an administrator. As an administrator, Hess led initiatives to improve student behavior, attendance and engagement through Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and restorative practices that promoted accountability and growth for all students.

“I’m excited to partner with this incredible community to help students thrive,” said Hess. “Together, we’ll support our students as they learn and grow academically, socially and emotionally.”

"Jacob Hess brings both experience and a results-driven approach to his new role in Walled Lake," said Dr. Michael Lonze, Superintendent of Schools. "His leadership in fostering accountability, growth and student engagement will be a true asset to our District."
