District Model UN programs shine at Mid-American Model UN Conference

The Walled Lake Central and Walled Lake Western Model United Nations Clubs rose to the occasion and achieved at the highest level this past week during the Mid-American Model United Nations Conference (MAMUN) in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The Vikings and Warriors were among 18 schools from across the state, each representing different UN-member nations, that worked alongside one another to find resolutions to current-day international issues. This year’s topics ranged from the use of artificial intelligence in militaries to food security and nutrition.

After three days of hard work and diplomacy, Walled Lake Western was awarded Second Highest Honors for Most Prepared School for the third-straight year. Individually, five Warriors were also recognized. Aithan Simmons, who was a member of the Special Political Committee, and Alex Vucinic, who was on the Security Council, both received Highest Honors. Willem Damron (Legal Committee), Chase Rybak (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Issues Committee), and Rawaa Sulieman (Science and Technology Committee) earned Second Highest Honors.
Two Walled Lake Central students were recognized for their work representing the country of Palestine. Hasini Julai, who was on the Science and Technology Committee, received Highest Honors and Marissa Carroll earned Second Highest Honors in the Special Political Meeting.
