Course Selection

The class selection form will open on Monday, February 23, when 7th grade scheduling presentations begin.

Art (One Semester)

Art classes offer students the opportunity to develop twenty-first century skills in the areas of critical and creative thinking, communication, and collaboration. A variety of media and technology formats will be used, as students explore the elements of design, including two and three dimensional media. Students will also be introduced to the principles of design, and they will continue to develop skills and further refine their artistic capabilities.

Band (Full Year)

This is a full-year study and performance course for seventh grade band students who have successfully completed 6th grade Band. Attendance at all performances, three evenings, and one/two Saturday festival(s) is a required part of the course. This is a yearlong commitment.

Communication & Theatre Arts (One Semester)

Students will play theater improvisation games, give speeches, and act. There are opportunities to create original work, allowing students to have fun and be creative while performing in film projects and skits. Developing confidence in speaking and performance will be a focus. 

Design Technology (STEAM Adventures) (One Semester)

Learn by jumping into hands-on projects that allow you to explore engineering, design, research, and innovation. You’ll work with technology systems, learn how to troubleshoot and experiment, and get creative with inventions and prototypes—all while working safely. It's a fun and practical way to build skills that will help you think outside the box! Activities include but are not limited to: Building and testing models, coding, physical computing, robotics, creating 2D and 3D physical and digital models using design software and laser cutters, 3D printers and other tools.7th grade focus is transportation technologies. Students will explore career pathways and their connections to various technologies. 

Leadership 7 (One Semester)

In this exploratory class, students step into the role of a leader with this dynamic semester-long course designed to empower middle school students to develop the skills and mindset necessary for effective leadership. Through hands-on activities, collaborative projects, and self-reflection, students will explore what it means to lead with confidence and integrity. Students interested in this class must complete a small application and obtain a teacher recommendation. The Student Leadership Application is due Thursday, March 26.

Newsmedia (Newspaper)/Journalism (One Semester)

This semester class is designed to engage students, introduce fundamental journalism skills, and help them create their own class newspaper. The course covers topics such as writing techniques, news coverage, interview skills, photography, and ethics, while offering hands-on experience in producing a publication.  

Orchestra (Full Year)

This is a full-year study and performance course for seventh grade students who have successfully completed 6th grade Orchestra. Attendance at all performances, three evenings, and one/two Saturday festival(s) is a required part of the course. This is a yearlong commitment.

Physical Education (One Semester)

Students will participate in seasonal team and individual sports as well as curriculum-related games and activities. During physical education, students will be required to wear appropriate attire including athletic shoes. Grading will be based on daily participation and skill improvement as well as positive attitude and effort.

Vocal Music (One Semester)

Students will learn healthy singing techniques, how to read music, and learn ear training, including the use of a piano lab. They will also explore the music of different cultures and languages using a wide variety of musical styles. Participation in evening performances, usually one or two a semester, is a required part of the course.

World Languages - Introduction to French, German and Spanish (One Semester)

In this exploratory course, students will hear, speak, and transcribe in three languages: French, German and Spanish. The basic sounds of language and fundamental sentence patterns will be explored. Words, phrases, and common expressions dealing with topics such as greetings, classroom objects, numbers, colors, calendar, weather, and telling time will be introduced. Some history, geography, and culture of the world language country will also be included.
